3 Steps to Achieving the Best Oral Health

3-Step At-Home Healthy Teeth Regimen:

Brush your teeth twice a day

The best times to brush your teeth are right after breakfast and before bed. If brushing your teeth after breakfast is impractical, brush when you first wake up. This prevents tooth decay and cavities by removing oral bacteria buildup and hardening of plaque. Use an ADA-approved soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste to avoid doing any damage to the teeth.

Floss every day

Flossing allows you to remove plaque from between teeth and beneath the gum line. This actually disrupts bacterial colonies, preventing them from building up and damaging the teeth.

Rinse After Eating

Rinsing your mouth with water between meals, and staying hydrated throughout the day, promotes saliva production to protect your teeth from plaque buildup. Adding a mouthwash can also help protect against gum disease by killing bacteria, but be sure to read the labels to find one accepted by the ADA.

When should I visit the dentist?

Children should begin seeing the dentist when their first tooth erupts or their first birthday, whichever comes first. Starting a relationship with the dentist early will help acclimate your child to the dentist’s office and make them feel comfortable with dental care.

Visiting the dentist with your child allows parents and caregivers the opportunity to demonstrate healthy habits. Children who visit the dentist with a parent who is also coming for dental care helps reduce anxiety and set a solid foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.
