Why Visit the Dentist?
Dr. Moore recommends that patients of all ages visit with us at least twice a year, following the ADA guidelines for preventive dental care. Regular visits offer many benefits for the long term maintenance of good oral health and can minimize the risk for complex dental problems throughout your life.
When you visit with us we can look for the early signs of developing concerns, including tooth decay and gum disease. These are the most common oral health diseases impacting patients of all ages, even young children. Identifying and treating common dental problems in the early stages often means conservative, less invasive dentistry can be effective.
Your First Visit: What To Expect
The first time you visit with us our goal is to help you feel welcome, relaxed and to acquaint you with our office and team. Dr. Moore will meet with you to discuss your oral health, listen to any concerns you may have and make treatment recommendations based on our initial dental exam. You can expect:
- Dental exam
- Screenings for common dental problems and cavities
- Dental x-rays as needed
- Consultation with Dr. Moore
If time allows we will also perform a tooth cleaning, otherwise this may be scheduled for another visit. Please bring with you:
- Valid form of ID, such as a driver’s license
- Dental insurance card if applicable
- Patient forms
- Dental records and recent x-rays if available to you
What is General Dentistry?
General dentistry focuses on maintaining a healthy smile and also includes common dental services to address tooth decay and gum disease.
As a general dentist in Charlotte, Dr. Moore works with patients of all ages to avoid dental problems through routine care and oral hygiene. General dental services also include root canals, emergency care, and periodontal therapy.
Patient education also plays an important role in our general dental care. Dr. Moore and our team offer personalized care and advice to help you avoid problems and keep your teeth and gums healthy between visits. We believe that a well-informed patient is a key component of lifelong oral health.
A good daily oral hygiene routine should include:
- Tooth brushing twice a day: gently brush all surfaces of the teeth and along the gum line with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Flossing once a day between all teeth.
- Rinsing the mouth with water after consuming meals and sugary snack foods or beverages to remove debris and minimize bacteria that remains in the mouth.
Depending on your unique risk factors for gum disease and tooth decay, we may recommend the use of an anti-bacterial rinse at home or other oral hygiene products. A healthy diet that is low in sugar will also support optimal oral health.
